We will discuss how to manage a meadow for maximum biodiversity with focus given to the annual cycle of a meadow.

9-10 May: Two-day scything course, Bodgers Ball, Weald and Downland Museum, Chichester, PO18 0EU (£140)

Join us on this two day scything course where we will cover scythe selection and set-up, correct mowing technique and maintenance of the Austrian scythe along with an introducing Traditional English scythes and hand hay-making techniques. Book at bodgers.org.uk


25-26 May: Two-day Rake-Making Workshop. 10am- 4pm on both days. Dyfed Permaculture Farm Trust, Penboyr, SA44 5HG, (£160)

Learn to make your own beautiful wooden rake over two days which will serve you for years to come. Camping available on request.


22 June: Scything have-a-go at the ‘Real’ Hay Festival 2pm-4:30 pm. Newchapel, Llanidloes (Free)

This is suitable for beginners, skilled scythers and everyone in between. Learn about the traditional harvest and take part in the hay harvest at this beautiful meadow. Festival runs 14:00-21:00. Email hand.powered@yahoo.com to book your place or turn up on the day.


7 June: Beginners Scythe Course, 10am-4pm, Green Scythe fair, Muchelney, £85 (The cost is £85 for individuals. Concession (unwaged) £50. Organisations £100 per person)

This scything course will cover set-up, mowing technique and maintenance of the Austrian scythe. Suitable for beginners and improvers. We will give you a range of blades to try and will provide technical knowledge to allow you to scythe a variety of vegetation types easily and effectively. Single-day bookings available.
